In-House Sleep Apnea Testing and Diagnosis

Traditional off-site sleep studies for inmates come with significant costs—not just for the study itself but also for secure transportation, additional trained security personnel, and oversight throughout the process.

In-House sleep study testing can save our correctional partners thousands of dollars while also lowering risk for both staff and inmates. Additionally, each grievance submitted by inmates for denial of sleep medicine can cost the state about $10,000.

When a sleep study is ordered, SMS swiftly ships a testing kit to your facility within two business days, complete with clear instructions for easy administration. Our support team is available 24/7 to assist your staff throughout the process. Once the study is complete, simply return the kit using the pre-labeled envelope. After the testing device is received, SMS will employ a robust three-step diagnostic process shown below.

3-Step Diagnostic Process
  • AI-Powered Analysis: Initial data scoring using advanced artificial intelligence
  • Expert Review: Verification by a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
  • Physician Diagnosis: Final assessment and diagnosis by our Board-Certified Sleep Physicians

The correctional facility receives a comprehensive diagnostic report with treatment recommendations within two business days of SMS receiving the unit. This ensures rapid, accurate, and effective inmate care.

Providing effective treatment of sleep apnea to inmates is critical not only for improving their sleep and breathing but also for preventing the onset of other health conditions, which can lead to increased health care usage costs.

SMS provides a full range of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines, tailored to meet both patient needs and facility requirements.

We ensure a streamlined implementation process by shipping all necessary equipment – along with initial supplies and maintenance instructions – directly to your facility. Once a patient is fitted with a CPAP device, SMS proactively manages ongoing care, delivering replacement masks, filters, and hoses every 3 months (about 90 days) to maintain optimal therapy and compliance.

For advanced support, we offer Telehealth services provided by our licensed respiratory therapists or our board-certified sleep specialists. They can assist with equipment set up and follow up care for inmates if needed.
